Yeah, I wish my wife shared that sentiment. She give me no end of grief
over the 11/34a I have in my basement, running UNIX 6th Ed. Honey, it's a
piece of history, I keep telling her.... :-)
I should have said that the manuals aren't worth the Ebay prices, but of
course they are not worthless. I have been told that there are some
people who get an old working machine with all the docs and then rip out
all
the parts to sell them separately just to make money instead of keeping
the
machine for future generations. I've heard of a guy who did this with
one
of the last working PDP-10 (I think).
That is a shame. People like that should be shot.
(my $0.02)

The value in the manuals is specifically "what" manuals. Some are extremely rare, and others are unobtainable unless you can find a collector to sell it to you.

Here's a perfect chance to own a great piece of history! Straight
from the basement of a DEC employee of over 30 years, this is a once
in a lifetime find! Below are the specs for a complete, working
PDP11/70. This machine was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars
when it was first released, now you can own it for a fraction of the
cost. This truly is a collector’s dream!
1. Fully operational PDP-11/70 with 512KB memory
2. 2 * RM03 40MB removable disk drives with 14 disk packs
3. 1 * RL02 removable disk drive with 2 disk packs
4. 1 * RX01 floppy disk drive
5. 1 * TE10W 9 track tape drive
6. 1 * DZ11-C 16 terminal controller
7. 2 * DECprinter I high speed line printers
8. RSTS/E operating system
System comes with circuit schematics and many, many manuals which are
worth quite a bit of money if you search Ebay. Equipment is in three
(3) 6 foot bays.
Now the gory details: Shipping and packing is to be paid by the
buyer. This machine must be crated and freighted by August 14, unless
you can come with a Uhaul to Nashua, New Hampshire (where the system
is located) and carry it away yourself (It is quite large!). No
exceptions!
Hi Josh, is the PDP-11 still available, what do you ask for it and do you ship internationally?

[Checks calendar to make sure it isn't April 1st.]

You DO realize that you're replying to a post that is nearly 19 years old, right? And even if it was still available you'd be talking many thousands of dollars to ship it overseas.

Hahaha, yes just after I clicked 'Post' I saw the dates and facepalmed. Sorry :)

But you can't blame a guy for being passionate about the PDP-11, right?

I am ready to pass down my collection. I am in East Texas. Tough decision but I am at peace with it.
Anyone that is a good home please feel free to contact.

Hi John. Also John here. I'm real close to Fort Worth. Not a lot of room but always interested. If you're looking to pass on items I would suggest here, or maybe the Classic Computer mail list or over at http://www.vcfed.org

Hi John,

What are you trying to pass down and how far out in east TX are you? I was out at Edom picking berries a couple weeks ago.

I have two complete, though in some what disrepair, sets of RSX-11 manuals. I believe that each set constitutes a legal license. I have 15+ working RL02 packs some of which have sysgen. Lots of 8” floppies and tapes.
Hardware wise I have an 11/04 plugged into a working RL02 that I used to capture the diskpacks using PDP11-GUI. I have a 11/34 that has some issue booting but I think I have enough spare boards to make three 11/34s including boot roms, extra ram, floating point, etc. I have an 11/44 that was booting when I moved to into the barn. Somewhere I have a list of my boards. Also have some qbus stuff, an /73 maybe.
Some is in the Spring area, some near Crockett.

John,
I am also in Texas (Canyon Lake) and I just finished building a new air conditioned hobby barn for my PDP-11s. My primary interest is RSX-11 running on Qbus
systems, but I also use RT-11 with a MINC-23. I am just finishing connecting a PDP-11/84 with a UniBone to a TU81+ to recover nine-track tapes. I would be interested
to know what tapes you might have. Also, I would have some interest in your PDP-11/44 and RL02s.

Best Regards,

I have never heard of a set of manuals constituting a license. If
that were the case I have a number of licenses still and have thrown
even more in the dumpster. :-)

Hi John:
Are the spare boards for 11/34 or 11/34a? If for the 34a, I'd be interesting in knowing the board M numbers. If you are willing to pack them, I'd pay shipping.
I can be reached at jhudak at gmail

Hi John,

I'm in New Orleans, but I'm willing to make a trip. I've been trying to build up a 11/83 system for some time, and now I think I have most of the parts. But, spares are helpful...and if you happen to have a BA23 or a BA213...

I'm in Baton Rouge with a couple of 11/23s, a few RL02 disks, tapes, microVAX, VAXstation, a complete set of RSX11M manuals and a lot of old DEC books that have all been sitting in an air-conditioned office for years, should I put them on eBay?

Hello:
I assume you mean the RL02 drives as well as disks? Did you scan the 11M manuals? I could do that for you if you are interested.
I'd love to have the hardware but I have similar systems in my basement as well. Are the 11/23's in a rack? if so, what size rack? If they are in a 6' DEC rack I may be interested. I can be reached at jhudak at gmail
Thanks

Hi!

I'd be quite willing to come and help you repurpose these machines...I'm in New Orleans, so anytime you wish to chat I'm available. I've got boards that I've collected over time, but no backplane or chassis to put them in...
