technically this is not a PDP11 questions, but.....

Are there any sites that have VMS OS manuals available for download?

I have stored away a complete set of VMS 5.4 (or is it 5.5?)manuals, must be about 35 three-ring binders. My intent (many years ago) was to scan them into some electronic document format (.tiff, .pdf, etc.)..well I was OBE'ed and now it is 2016 and I am wondering if any of the manuals exist online? (or should I still consider scanning them?)

Come to think of it, are there locations of RT and RSX-llM manuals? I basically have bits and pieces of 'essentials' in my book case but more docs are usually helpful, especially since age has a way of eroding all the PIP switches..lol

Much appreciated,

John

Well, the HP site used to have them. Here we are:

I happen to like <http://bitsavers.org/>. In <dec/vax/vms> there is a
folder for each version, but there is not much in the V5.4 and V5.5 folders.

bitsavers has many RT-11 manuals, including the FULL
DOC set for V05.06 of RT-11 plus the one manual that
is different, Release Notes, for V05.07 of RT-11.

If you need the actual URL, I can probably find it.

I have a dead tree copy of V05.06 myself, but it
is spoken for after I am no longer using it. If I
finad another copy hidden away behind the couch,
that individual will get them first.

bitsavers also has a VERY small number of file
distributions for RT-11. The binary and source
distributions are elsewhere.

As for RSX-11 manuals and distributions, ask
Johnny.

Bitsavers have most manuals. Unfortunately the scans aren't that great.
I have paper copies myself, and maybe some day I'll get around to do
something about it.

(Issues with the scans are that all color has been lost, which is rather
significant in some RSX manuals, as well as me personally thinking that
pure bitmaps might please the person wanting to preserve to look, but as
I prefer to get the content, I would like to OCR the stuff instead.)
